Zoology is the science of animal life, whether it is microscopic or massive, aquatic or terrestrial. Zoology at Aberystwyth University benefits from our wonderful natural environment including inter-tidal and sub-tidal marine habitats, estuaries, wetlands, freshwater streams and rivers, woodlands, heathland etc., allowing access to species such as red kites, chough, bottle-nose dolphins, pine martins, red squirrels, porpoises etc. The industrial placement provides you with the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge you’ve learnt during your first and second years within a working environment.
This course is engineered to give you a head start in an increasingly competitive job market and, upon successful completion of this degree, you will have developed an additional range of working skills and awareness all of which employers are seeking.
You will learn in an Institute which has won the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education. At Aberystwyth, we place great emphasis upon practical skills, so that our graduates become practitioners from the word go. You will have access to extensive research and teaching labs equipped with the latest state-of-the-art equipment, including bioimaging facilities, high-throughput DNA sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics and spectroscopic platforms. You will be taught by research-active staff at the forefront of knowledge, and emerge from your course with the knowledge, competencies and skills to forge a career in this fascinating field of science.
The syllabus of this course with the integrated year in industry is identical to its sister course BSc Zoology (C300 ). Your work experience must be relevant to this degree as it will be assessed and will count towards your degree grade. You will organise your work experience under the guidance of our Director for Employability. There is no guarantee that the work experience will be paid. If you cannot obtain a placement, you must transfer to the sister course BSc Zoology (C300).

Completing a year in industry will allow you to: Apply the learning from your course to the work environment; Make industry contacts; Develop practical skills related to your area of study; Apply your practical skills and technical knowledge after returning to study; Enhance your CV and better prepare yourself for a job after graduating.
In a growing market where graduates with skills and specialist knowledge in Zoology, our graduates seek employment in the following: Teaching, Environmental consultancy; Conservation; Media.
For students who are interested in undertaking a Masters qualification, you may be interested in our MBiol Zoology C309. This four-year course has the same syllabus for the first three years as C300 BSc Zoology, however, you will have an additional year to complete the syllabus of the MBiol to graduates with a Masters in Zoology.

A minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) English or Welsh is a requirement for entry to all our degree schemes. Level 3 KS/FS Communication may be acceptable in lieu of GCSE English or Welsh. For this degree scheme minimum grade C or grade 4 passes in GCSE (or equivalent) Mathematics and in a GCSE (or equivalent) science subject are also required. GCSE Mathematics-Numeracy and level 3 KS/FS Application of Number are acceptable in lieu of GCSE Mathematics.
