The Foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering is designed to provide the knowledge and understanding of how advanced and innovative engineering underpins the mechanical design, advanced manufacturing and technical service areas of the industry. Mechanical engineers work to research, develop and manage projects, devising innovative solutions in design and manufacture
During your course you may study areas including:
•Stress and Dynamics
•Design, Materials and Manufacturing
•Energy and Thermodynamics and Heat transfer
•Power and the Environment.
You will learn through a combination of lectures, directed study, assignment work, practical exercises and the completion of a work-based project relevant to your employment. Your studies will be conducted in our Energy Skills Centre at the Bridgwater Centre of University Centre Somerset.
Assessment will be via a variety of assignments and examinations which will include the analysis and resolution of engineering based scenarios, as well as a portfolio of case work and reflective assignments.

You will require a minimum of 48 UCAS tariff points from a full Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area and at least four GCSEs at grades A* - C or Grade 4 including Maths and English. BTEC Level 3 Further Mathematics is required for applicants holding a BTEC Level 3 Diploma.
