Course summary

Part of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, our research programme in history covers a wide variety of research areas embracing economic, political and social history. Particular specialisms include: Social change and urban change in 20th-century Britain; film and propaganda; women and professional work in late 19th- and 20th-century Britain and Canada; the Suez Crisis; maritime and business history; French economic history. Additionally research interest is in American influences on British cities; modern Irish history; history of the University of Westminster; European taxation systems; Religious history; European integration and European political history.

How to apply

International applicants

If English is not your first language you must demonstrate English language skills to the equivalent of IELTS 6.5 at commencement. We will then expect you to undertake courses to develop your English language competence to the equivalent of IELTS 7.0 in your first year of study.


Entry requirements

A minimum classification of 2.1 in their first degree or equivalent And preferably a Masters degree (or Masters degree pending) Applicants whose secondary level education has not been conducted in the medium of English should also demonstrate evidence of appropriate English language proficiency, normally defined as: English language test Minimum entry requirement IELTS 6.5 (overall band score with not less than 6.0 in any of the individual elements) TOEFL (Internet Based) No longer accepted. Certificates issued before 17 April 2014 with scores of 91 may be accepted, please check with your admissions office. TOEFL (Paper Based) No longer accepted.
