The course will develop your understanding and foundations of core computing, programming, systems design and software development. During the course, you will develop your skills and knowledge in areas such as computer networks, server and security management.

The course is modular, and the content is designed to be flexible enough to provide you with underpinning knowledge in all subjects.

You will also be given the opportunity to explore a range of areas in more detail.

The course will allow you to develop your awareness of professional standards of conduct and practice; which will provide you with the ability to apply your skills, knowledge and understanding to a variety of computing problems and contexts.

You will study two qualifications, receiving a nationally recognised Higher Education qualification at the end of each year, a Higher National Certificate in the first year and a Higher National Diploma in the second year. A Higher National Certificate (HNC) and Higher National Diploma (HND) together are roughly equivalent to the first two years of a BA (Hons) degree.

Course details


Your modules will include Programming, Networking, Professional Practice, Database Design and Development, Security, Managing a Successful Computer Project, Website Design and Development and Strategic Information Systems.

Assessment method

There are no formal examinations required for this course. Assessment methods include practical assessments, reports and essays, analysis of case studies, oral presentations, seminar papers, project work, Personal Development Portfolio, examinations and unseen class tests. Assessment will involve both individual and group/team-based assignments.
