If you didn’t quite meet the entry requirements for a Sports degree but recognise the value of studying sport at Northumbria University (Northumbria Sport), then this course is perfect for you. We’re also the only University offering this course in North East England.
The Sport Development & Management Foundation Year will provide you with all the skills and knowledge you’ll need to take the next step into a Sport Management or Sport Development degree at Northumbria University.
It’s a brilliant opportunity for students who are unsure of what their career in sport will look like. Students will learn about the different facets of sport development and management, helping them to realise their ultimate career goal and choose the next step that’s right for them.
The foundation year will:
Provide students with academic skills required for higher level study;
Foster a basic understanding and knowledge of key principles and professions within sports disciplines.
Boost confidence in University study and life on campus.

Your tutors will use a variety of teaching methods, which may include lectures, seminars, problem-based workshops, case discussions, practical activities, group work and tutorials. Teaching is backed up by a well-designed support system that will underpin your learning journey. You will have access to a Guidance Tutor with whom you can discuss any academic issues. Extensive feedback from both tutors and peers is built into the course.
