This programme suits those who are interested in gaining specialist accounting and finance skills. This involves learning core accounting and finance practice relating to, for example, cost control, corporate financial reporting, taxation, auditing and financial management. Students undertake a range of tasks associated with an accounting and finance environment and enjoy developing sophisticated solutions to accounting problems and opportunities.
Year 1 provides an introduction to the key business disciplines and development of vital skills. Students will work with an external organisation to see theory in action and acquire valuable skills. Year 2 includes financial reporting, management accounting, taxation and auditing. It allows a choice of options in contemporary accounting and finance areas. An internship opportunity exists which will be assessed for credits. Year 3 develops the themes of strategy, corporate reporting and international financial management, with the opportunity to choose options. Students will also study either a dissertation in a contemporary accounting and finance topic or an organisational consultancy project in which they will simulate the management consultant’s role developing advice for an organisation.
This programme offers an academically challenging, vocational experience which incorporates innovative teaching and assessment methods. Students will be expected to be active in managing their learning experience, to be creative and to take initiatives to develop themselves.
