Our Computing foundation degrees are unique: at the centre of our students' learning is employability and the understanding of how the computer industry functions and thrives.

The FdSc Computer Networks and IT Management programme offers students the chance to immerse themselves in practical aspects of computing and network technology. Commercial SME, corporate work-based learning and placements are an integral feature of the programme, as is developing the understanding of how key aspects of business are related to computing and are integral to network and IT infrastructure and business operations.

Students will be introduced to the professional standards of corporate business and the computer industry, and be exposed to entrepreneurial concepts that will enable them to see opportunities for creating businesses or engage in a rewarding career.

Year 1:
Introduction to Network Architecture,
Routers and Switching Essentials,
User Experience (UX),
Computing and Emerging Technology,
Systems Analysis and Database Design,
ASSET (Academic Study Skills, Employability and T-Shaped).

Year 2:
Scaling Networks,
Connecting Networks,
Implementing Network Security,
Object-oriented Programming,
Work based Research Project.

Assessment method

The course is primarily assessed using a series of assignments and phase tests throughout the two year programme, plus a final examination. FdSc Computing Networks and IT Management will prepare students to sit exams leading to the professional qualifications related to CISCO Networking. You will also be required to undertake 400 hours of work placement over the two years.
