The BA (Hons) Sport Business and Management degree is designed to provide you with the knowledge and the understanding of some of the principal aspects of business and management in the context of sport. You will consider the importance of sport for the welfare of individuals and groups in society and how, as a manager, you can respond effectively to their needs.
In particular the Sport Business and Management programme aims to
Foster an enquiring and critical analysis of the structures and processes that underpin and influence the development of sport by drawing on theories, concepts and methods that are practised within the social sciences.
Facilitate student competence in the process of becoming active, reflective and independent learners through providing, within a supportive learning environment, student centred teaching and learning methods.
Foster an enterprising, entrepreneurial spirit and enhance the employability prospects of each student.
Enable students to acquire and develop competence in key transferable skills that will enhance their opportunities for further study, life-long learning and employment.
Support the strategic vision of the University by meeting the needs of local, regional, and national students and by encouraging applicants from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Provide knowledge and skills to operate effectively in sport business environments whilst aware of the moral and ethical considerations affecting management of people and services.
Develop basic leadership and coaching skills such that students could assist or deliver under supervision coaching sessions to a variety of populations.

English language requirements
If you are an international student and English is not your first language, you can begin your 3-year degree programme at IELTS 5.5. Our International Route allows you to take 4 credit-bearing modules in International English Studies (IES) as part of your first year studies. This means you study 4 modules in your chosen subject and 4 in International English. The IES Modules allow you to focus on personal language development and your use of English as an academic language. Then, at the end of your first year, you’ll have all the necessary language skills to transfer to full study of your main subject. If you have an IELTS score under 5.5 you can still begin a 3-year degree programme with us. In this case we provide a 5 or 10 week intensive Presessional Programme in English language and academic skills. For the 10 week Programme you’ll need IELTS 4.5, and IELTS 5.0 for the 5 week Programme.
