Medical engineering applies engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes. The field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine through multidisciplinary working – and engineering knowledge is also used to understand the body better, so that new and innovative tools can be developed for the medical community.

From biomaterials to joint replacement technology, this course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to advance healthcare treatments including monitoring, diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation.

We have an international reputation for our expertise in medical engineering, and we are part of the Leeds Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering which acts as a focus for training and research in hospitals and at the University.

Our active Industrial Advisory Board helps inform the development of this course to ensure that it is up to date with industry developments and requirements. This is one of the reasons why our graduates are so in demand from industry.

A level A*AA A*AA including Mathematics and Physics, where the A* must be in either Mathematics or Physics.

Where an A-level Science subject is taken, we require a pass in the practical science element, alongside the achievement of the A-level at the stated grade.

Excludes A-level General Studies or Critical Thinking.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) DDD DDD overall with Distinctions in relevant Mechanical units and grade A in A-Level Mathematics. Some Mechanical units may be optional on your BTEC but are required by the Faculty. Please contact us for further information.
Access to HE Diploma D: 45 credits Pass 60 credits overall with 45 credits at Level 3, with Distinction - to include Mathematics, Calculus, Further Calculus, and Physics.
Scottish Higher AAAAA AA at Advanced Higher Level, including Mathematics and Physics, and AAAAA at Higher Level.
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal D2, D3, D3 D2, D3, D3 including Mathematics and Physics, where the D2 grade must be in either Mathematics or Physics.
GCSE/National 4/National 5 English Language at grade C (4) or above, or an appropriate English language qualification.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme 36 points 36 points overall, with 18 points at higher level to include 6 points in higher level Mathematics and Physics.
Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) H1, H1, H2, H2, H2, H2 H1 H1 H2 H2 H2 H2, including Mathematics and Physics where a H1 grade must be in either Mathematics or Physics.
