Based within our Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, our research programme in sociology is involved in a wider range of interests and specialisms ranging from empirically-oriented primary research to highly conceptual theoretical work. Particularly important themes include the tradition of cultural studies, the sociology of education, and community and DIY activism. The programme is committed to fostering an inclusive and interdisciplinary research culture that involves full-time, fractional and visiting lecturers. Members of the programme have published books with major scholarly publishers and in internationally recognised journals, and have been involved in the development and organisation of international conferences.
