Assessment method

Students are assessed in a variety of ways. Performances, Audio Recordings, Presentations, Technical Tests, Essays, Aural Exams, and Portfolios are all methodologies used to assess how students meet the required learning outcomes. Final degree classifications are calculated with a 30% weighting on Level 5, and a 70% weighting on Level 6 grades. Specialist Study accounts for over 40% of the credits available on the Popular Pathway, with Specialist Group Study Performance (Band work) and Specialist Study Performance carrying 60 of the total 120 credits required at Levels 4 and 5, and 40 of the total 120 credits required at Level 6. The remaining credits include Contextual Studies, Professional Studies, Creative Project and Final Project (depending on the year of study). The vast majority of assessment deadlines fall at the end of each semester, with a handful of small credit-bearing assessments taking place during term time.
