Course summary

Based within our Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM) our research into photography is part of one of the UK's leading centres for research in visual media art, design and music. It boasts over 30 researchers, including internationally renowned artists, filmmakers, photographers, theorists, critics and musicians. With expertise covering photographic history, theory and practice, this research culture grew directly out of the university's pioneering photography courses. Interconnecting themes include the place of photography in art, the interface between photography and the moving image, fashion and photography as well as surrealism.

How to apply

International applicants

If English is not your first language you must demonstrate English language skills to the equivalent of IELTS 6.5 at commencement. We will then expect you to undertake courses to develop your English language competence to the equivalent of IELTS 7.0 in your first year of study.


Entry requirements

A minimum classification of 2.1 in their first degree or equivalent And preferably a Masters degree (or Masters degree pending) Applicants whose secondary level education has not been conducted in the medium of English should also demonstrate evidence of appropriate English language proficiency, normally defined as: English language test Minimum entry requirement IELTS 6.5 (overall band score with not less than 6.0 in any of the individual elements) TOEFL (Internet Based) No longer accepted. Certificates issued before 17 April 2014 with scores of 91 may be accepted, please check with your admissions office. TOEFL (Paper Based) No longer accepted.
