Course summary

Based within our Faculty of Science and Technology, our research into pharmacology, toxicology and pharmacy involves experienced and research-active staff who work in close collaboration with the bio-industry, NHS and other research institutions within the UK, Europe and the US. Our facilities at the Cavendish Campus are equipped with state of the art instrumentation. Our research focuses on a range of areas including: the use of biomarkers to guide drug development and target medicines toward specific populations; identification and development of new therapeutic approaches to disease; and the detection of disease and pathogens, genomics and epidemiology.

International applicants

This course has a subject classification which requires students whose nationality is outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland to have an ATAS certificate, irrespective of country of residence at the point of application.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a minimum classification of 2.1 in their first degree or equivalent and preferably a master's degree (or masters degree pending). Applicants whose first degree has not been studied in English should have IELTS 6.5 overall and 6.0 in all elements. Applicants need to submit a research proposal of 2,000–3,500 words. It should include a title of proposed research, identify discipline and formulate research questions clearly. It should also include proposed research methodology and plan of work and time schedule. References are normally required and if not provided with your application will be requested at a later date.
