You will be taught how contemporary practices are often employed by elite practitioners and encouraged to research and challenge ideologies in order to enhance your own understanding of sports coaching and development.
You will benefit from the use of our state-of- the-art facilities, including fitness suites, the sports laboratory, 3G AstroTurf pitches, outdoor games area as well as the opportunity to visit other facilities.
All lecturers for this course hold recognised industry qualifications in diverse specialisms within the remit of sports coaching and development.
You will be invited to attend guest lectures from industry professionals, local employers and researchers from external institutions. The lower student-staff ratio also allows you to benefit from additional lecturer support that cannot always be found at other educational providers.
Our research facilities consist of modern appliances that can be used to accurately quantify physiological, biological, psychological and biomechanical parameters, along with key technical performance indicators – all of which holistically determine athletic performance and inform clinical and coaching practice. Our apparatus includes force platforms, Dartfish software, timing gates and blood lactate analysis equipment. These facilities will provide you with unique and sought-after employability skills that are desirable within the industry.
You will also have the opportunity to apply for our Senior Football Academy and benefit from structured coaching sessions and fixtures alongside your studies.
Previous students have secured work placements alongside their academic studies, including working with the British Cycling team, coaching at local sports clubs, and assisting with teaching within the primary, secondary and further education sector.
On successful completion of the HND, you can apply for a third year to achieve a full BSc Hons degree in Sports Coaching and Development. The course will provide you with the right employability skills to help you apply for a range of jobs including - Sports Coach, Sports Development Officer, PE Teacher, Performance Analyst and Sports Scientist.

Methods of assessment are specifically designed to replicate industry requirements and prepare you for employment and further study. Examples include: written assignments, practical assessments, biomechanical video analysis, presentations, research methods and exams.

There are no qualification requirements for this course.
Applicants must have GCSE (or equivalent) English at grade C (grade 4) or above AND - A BTEC National Diploma or other relevant level 3 qualification, preferable in a relevant subject OR - A minimum of one A Level preferably in a relevant subject OR - An Access to Higher Education Certificate. As a guideline, a typical offer would require you to obtain a UCAS tariff score of between 32 - 48 points, based on your level 3 studies.
