The Certificate of Higher Education (Cert HE) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is a nationally recognised qualification and is also an alternative progression route to the BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. The CERT HE is ideal if you not have reached the required level in BTEC study or A Levels, or if you have chosen a new direction for your HE study. The programme will provide you with entry-level industry knowledge and practical skills in aircraft maintenance engineering and embeds European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) basic skills and competencies throughout the modules. This programme was developed with employers and industry bodies to ensure all requirements are met for both the academic requirements of the programme and the requirements of the aviation industry.This one year course will prepare you for degree level study and after successfully completing the CERT HE, you will be guaranteed to progress onto year 2 of the BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering.The programme is suitable for engineering, maths or science students who wish to specialise in aircraft maintenance engineering and who may not have reached the required level in BTEC study or A Levels, or those who have chosen a new direction for their HE study.

Modules

Academic Study Skills, Aircraft Physics, Electrical Fundamentals, Maintenance Practices, Materials and Hardware, Maths for Engineers, Personal Development, Work Related Learning.

Assessment method

Learning methods are flexible and varied and include practical workshops, assignment work, reports, projects, simulations, portfolios, presentations and examinations. Due to the nature and delivery of the programme you will develop a number of vocational competencies and key skills in order to become an autonomous learner. Modules are designed to assist you with your own personal and professional development and support your transition into HE and employment. In addition, the mandatory modules will help you assume greater independence and responsibility for your own learning. Industry resources, hanger environments and local commercial aircraft engineering developments and projects, together with field trips will provide an enhanced curriculum in a vocational context that will complement module delivery.
