Immerse yourself in the concepts and applications of the building blocks of civil engineering on this degree course. Our civil engineering course, founded with strong industry links, is different in respect of our unique location, situated in a region which boasts a wide range of cutting-edge engineering and technological-advanced organisations. You’ll be equipped with the principles and concepts of engineering, underpinned by a sound knowledge and understanding of scientific principles. You’ll be taught by research-informed teaching staff and will benefit from state-of-the-art laboratories and digital teaching and learning facilities within the UCLan Engineering Innovation Centre.

As a civil engineer you will become a part of a dynamic, fast growing industry with the potential to develop your career across the globe. You will have alternative routes to gain employment in a range of engineering disciplines, within either the broad area of civil engineering or specialist disciplines such as a structural engineer, transportation engineer, environmental engineer, or engineering hydrologist. As well as the option to further your specialisation with a postgraduate course, you can also diversify into the academic world of research and development, within universities or work for dedicated established research organisations within the built environment.

Year 1: Civil construction technology, Engineering analysis A, Performance of construction materials, Engineering geology, Surveying and mapping, Introduction to engineering systems, Thermodynamics and fluids

Year 2: Management and project planning, Engineering analysis B, Soil mechanics, Structural analysis, Civil engineering contract law, Construction computing (CAD & BIM), Conceptual Design Project

Year 3: Engineering Design Project, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Hydrology. Options from; Project Management and BIM, Health and Safety Management, Environmental Impact Assessment
