More about the Professional Placement Year
A Professional Placement Year (PPY), traditionally known as a sandwich year, is where a student undertakes a period of work with an external organisation for between 9-13 months. The placement occurs between the students' second and third years of undergraduate study. Students can engage in up to 3 placements to make up the total time and are required to source the placement(s) themselves with support from the Careers & Employability Team.
Year 1 will give you a broad understanding of today’s business environment, from organisational operation, economic thinking, to the importance of data in business. You’ll cover topics such as Organisations and the Business Environment; Economics and Globalisation; and Managing Data.
In Year 2 you’ll take your skills forward and focus on the inner workings of businesses, use techniques to solve problems and develop the skills that employers look for. You will learn to form opinions on how businesses manage challenges, you’ll work on projects and use business techniques to solve problems.
Finally, Year 3 will see you undertake an in-depth business research project in HRM, work with fellow students on a HR related project set by an employer as well as having the chance to plan a business by yourself or with fellow students. Again, you’ll choose other topics that excite you from events management to organisational strategy.
