The qualification provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required within the Travel and Tourism Sector. The main aims of the course are as follows:
1. Providing education and training for a range of careers in the Travel and Tourism Sector;
2. Providing opportunities for employees of travel and tourism facilities to achieve nationally recognised Level 4 and 5's in vocationally specific qualifications;
3. Providing opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised vocational specific qualification to enter employment in travel and tourism or to progress to a higher education vocational qualifications such as a HND or degree in a related area;
4. Developing the knowledge, understanding the skills of learners in the field of travel and tourism;
5. Providing opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills, techniques and attributes that are essential for successful performance in working life; and
6. Providing flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation as a basis for future studies and career development in travel and tourism.

Applicants should be a minimum age of 18 years old and have at least two A Levels (Grade C) or an equivalent level e.g. BTEC National Diploma.

Mature Applicants:
We are committed to widening participation and will consider applicants who can show evidence of learning that is equivalent to the required formal qualifications. If you have been out of education for a few years but have relevant vocational experience in a relevant area, accreditation of prior experience will be considered as an alternative entry requirement.

All candidates will be required to attend an interview, whereby their ability for the course will be assessed.

On completion of the course you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the concepts and characteristics of tourism as an area of academic and applied study, this will include being able to:

  • Understand and appreciate the potential contributions of disciplines that help to explain the nature and development of tourism;

  • Explain and analyse theories and concepts which are used to understand tourism;

  • Explain the definitions and operations of tourism;

  • Utilise a range of source material in investigating tourism; and

  • Understand and analyse the intercultural dimensions of tourism.
