Crafts (Taught) University for the Creative Arts

The course concentrates on the written histories and critical analyses of craft organisations, artists, theories and craft exhibitions, as well as discussions from management, educational and theoretical perspectives. The key outcomes of the course are a substantial essay, or an essay plus practice outcome in the case of makers. The use of museum and private collections (including artist collections) as a focus for study will be a strong feature on our course. This course is studio-based for practice-based students and library/museum-based for students engaged solely on written outcomes and study. The intensive written component of the course is directed by museum professional staff of the Crafts Study Centre. You will undertake a combination of lectures, tutorials and visits but, primarily, our course focuses on independent, self-directed study.
