This Programme is for practising artists and/or teachers in the performing arts wishing either to upgrade their existing teaching qualifications, obtain a postgraduate degree in learning and teaching at Masters level, or gain a second GTCS registration in dance. The Programme aims to provide students with a bespoke learning experience that caters to their individual needs and enables them to explore their artistry in the context of teaching and learning.

Principal study options

During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:

Single specialism

Only one instrument is studied. It may be possible to study a further instrument formatively, but this will not contribute towards the qualification.

Instrument/specialisms

For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.

Modules

In the first module, ‘Approaches to Critical Artistry’, you will develop critical and scholarly reflection by critically exploring your learning priorities as both an artist and teacher.

In the ‘Teaching Artist’ module, you will have the opportunity to critically explore your practice in light of the policies and learning theories that are relevant to your teaching context. You will deliver and evaluate two short teaching sessions designed to meet the needs of your learners.

Years one and two

Spanning years 1 and 2, ‘Context and Culture’ provides significant opportunities to explore your performing arts discipline(s) over a series of self-directed learning experiences. Your subject mentor will support you in identifying the experiences that will address your learning needs, such as professional placements, projects, masterclasses, or RCS choice modules.

Year two

In ‘Project (PG Cert)’ you will design, deliver and evaluate a practice-based research project that will enhance the development of identified learners in your performing arts context.

Year three

In the ‘Final Project’ module you will design your own project to meet your educational needs and professional aspirations. This project can take a number of different forms including but not limited to: curriculum documentation, a strategic plan, a dissertation, a performance, workshops or the design and delivery of new dance classes. This self-generated project might involve creative and collaborative partnership, or be a solo project. You must design a mechanism for disseminating your project findings.

International applicants

Currently around 20% of our students come from outside the UK. Between them, they represent over 53 different nationalities and add a rich diversity to the Conservatoire. International applications are welcome to this programme and Skype interviews can be arranged.


Entry requirements

Entrance to the Conservatoire is based on talent, potential and ability, therefore consideration will be given to relevant experience which is deemed to compensate for any traditional education. We accept a wide range of qualification, including international qualifications, but would recommend that applicants have a good degree, or its overseas equivalent, in a performing arts subject area relevant to the programme and/or hold a teaching qualification at undergraduate level.
International English Language Testing System score (IELTS) (if applicable) Level 7.5 with a minimum score of 7.5 in speaking and with a minimum score of 5.5 in all parts.


Audition locations

In the event of a successful audition, applicants may be invited for a further interview prior to being made an offer.

Remote audition recordings may be accepted in the event that you cannot attend an audition in person.
