Finance and accounting professionals are vital to all functions of a business. Developed in partnership with key industry players and accredited by the University of Birmingham, our Finance and Accounting course will enable you to apply your numerical abilities efficiently and open up a wide range of career opportunities. Working in collaboration with professional bodies such as ACCA and CIMA, you will gain a detailed understanding of financial systems and an insight into other business areas such as law, marketing, strategy and leadership. You'll also build practical experience working in our state-of-the-art Financial Trading Suite as well as having the opportunity of a paid 12-month work placement.

The new UCB Financial Trading Suite is one of the largest among all UK universities and provides practical training opportunities for our students on business and finance-related modules. Featuring 21 workstations, two large wall screens and a scrolling ticker providing real-time global market information, it is also the first university trading suite in the country to be powered by Infront Professional Terminal, offering unique benefits for staff and students in using and sharing data.
What skills will I gain?
You will gain first-hand knowledge of market concepts and behaviours through simulated investing and analysis of market opportunities, as well as having the chance to work on live consultancy cases with local and international clients.
You will develop your skills in professional trading and gain excellent academic skills support throughout your study.
With the placement, you will gain a distinct advantage in the graduate job market by developing your work-ready skills.
What about the future?
Upon completing your foundation degree, you may choose to enter employment with the prospect of working as a credit controller, accounting assistant, public accountant, accounting clerk, payroll outsourcer or bookkeeper.
Alternatively, you may want to progress to further professional studies by completing the final year of the BSc (Hons) Finance and Accounting degree at UCB. The BSc would be useful if you want to work in the following areas:

Work Placement (12 months - optional)
Modules are delivered as a combination of lectures, small group seminars, workshops, one-to-one tutorials, group projects, virtual learning environment (VLE) and self-directed study. Students are expected to participate and contribute to each session. Lectures are formal teaching sessions that provide essential content and assessment material.
Guest lectures are delivered by professionals from the finance and accounting sectors to enhance your learning and experience. Some modules may be delivered in block format by industry practitioners in order to ensure that their expertise is effectively shared.
Assessments are a mixture of exams and coursework including presentations, essays, reports, multiple choice tests and numerical computations. Our Financial Trading Suite is integrated within our teaching and assessment strategy to deliver a live learning experience.
You will be expected to commit to approximately 20 hours a week of your own study time in preparation for teaching sessions and completing assessments. Canvas, our virtual learning platform, provides 24-hour access to learning and support materials.
