All of our four year degrees are ideal for applicants who have only studied up to GCSE Level. This course may also be for you if you: have only a limited number of A-Levels or BTEC Level 3 qualifications; have been out of education for a while; are an EU national who graduated from high school outside of the UK. If you don’t have any formal qualifications, you could still be admitted onto the course if you pass our admissions tests and interview.
This 4-year course equips graduates with the crucial skills required for an entry-level position in financial accounting, management accounting, finance, auditing and taxation.
In the Foundation Year you will complete four modules. Three of these focus on general study skills and the fourth is an introduction to Accounting. These modules have been designed to prepare you for the next three years of your degree.
This degree is the first step on the ladder to becoming an accountant. To progress, a professional qualification is also essential. Most students will go on to take a professional accounting qualification with one of the major international accounting bodies, such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
This course is accredited by CIMA which means our graduates have been granted exemptions from nine CIMA modules. In addition, this course is also accredited by the ACCA and our graduates are also granted similar exemptions from nine ACCA modules. This means you can save yourself a lot of time and stress in the future, because this degree will equip you with a whole host of ready-made exemptions from the exams of the two leading professional accounting bodies in the UK.
Our students also benefit from free student membership to both ACCA and CIMA throughout the duration of their studies. This means that our students can take advantage of both ACCA and CIMA online communities and free resources and career support services relevant to their studies such as: interview tips, CV support, discussion forums, graduate vacancies, information about networking events, and career skills classes run by employers.
On this course you will undertake a rigorous and coherent study of the theory and practice of accounting and financial management and develop an understanding of how accounting and financial management is shaped by and impacts on legal, ethical, social, political, environmental and economic norms.
There are two semesters each year. Students complete 2 x 30 credit modules each semester, enabling students to concentrate on fewer modules at a time. See provider course page for full list of modules.
Corporate Risk Management is an optional Level 6 module that introduces students to the main types of risk facing organisations in todays’ international business environment. Both qualitative and quantitative methodologies will be examined and students will also be required to adopt a critical approach when applying the frameworks. It explores the various risk measurement and management tools available to organisations in order for them to incorporate risk planning, risk modelling and risk appraisals into their strategies and operations.
Small Business Management is an optional module at Level 6 that is aimed at introducing students to the world of enterprise and small business planning. Generally defined as an owner or manager of a business enterprise who attempts to make profits by starting and growing his or her business, an entrepreneur is confronted with numerous other challenges. In summary, the module seeks to critically analyse both the eclectic mix of individuals planning to develop and launch their own businesses as well as those with established small business ventures who would like to expand.
Optional modules are subject to demand.
Modules are assessed in different ways, e.g. essays, reports, portfolios, presentations and examinations.
Professionally accredited courses provide industry-wide recognition of the quality of your qualification.
