University Centre Somerset - Bridgwater & Taunton College has opted into the TEF and received a Silver award.
The BA (Hons) Top-up Degree includes five exciting modules designed to develop your skills and understanding to a professional standard.
Using advanced techniques and processes you will develop your own professional identity and dynamic portfolio underpinned by an appreciation of media make-up culture and theory. Students have the opportunity to specialise in a particular make-up discipline and develop their skills in that areas. As a result, you can expect to graduate from a course with a strong portfolio in your chosen field.
The year culminates at IMATS (International Make-up Artist Trade Show), in London where students are selected to demonstrate their skills on the University Centre Somerset stand. All students then showcase their work in a professional public event locally, where industry professionals are invited to celebrate your success.
We offer opportunities for residential trips in the UK and abroad as well as a variety of day trips. Previous cohorts have take opportunities to embark on study visits to London, New York, Berlin and Paris among others.
This course is highly-respected within the media industry and equips you with the advanced skills required for a flourishing career in a booming industry. Our graduates have gone on to work on productions such as Games of Thrones, Star Wars, or to work for companies such as Madame Tussauds or the English National Opera.
Modules you will study may include:
- advanced materials and techniques
- Industry directed project
- Final Major Project
The course is modular in design and assessment is continuous by means of coursework. You will complete written assignments, journals and design presentations, as well as undertaking regular practical projects.

Applicants must have a Foundation Degree, HND or equivalent Level 5 qualification in an appropriate discipline with an average of 50% across all modules.
Students also require GCSE at grade A*-C (new grading system 9-4) in English Language and Maths or equivalent Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy.
