If you are passionate about the ever growing beauty and spa industry, then this course is for you. The course has been designed to develop technical and theoretical skills required by industry. You’ll gain work experience in our innovative college beauty and spa, The Retreat, recognised as a Centre for Excellence by the International Institute for Anti-Ageing. You will work with recognised professional brands such as Elemis and Agera Chemical Peels and have access to specialist equipment such as Energist VPL, 3D Lipo, Microdermabrasion and CACI machines. As part of our Work-ready guarantee, you will undertake industry training in Elemis, Environ, Jane Iredale Make-Up, Advanced Nutrition Programme, Agera Chemical Peels, CACI and 3D Lipo. You will also undertake a work placement within The Retreat putting both management and advanced technical skills into practice. You will also have the opportunity to secure an external placement. Previous students have secured placements with Gleneagles Hotel and Seaham Hall. The course will give you the skills to pursue a range of roles including at managerial level. Previous graduates have secured employment with Steiner Cruise Liners, Sk:n and with some setting up their own business. On successful completion you may decide to progress onto our one-year BA (Hons) Business Management (Top-Up) degree.

Modules

Year One: Physiology and Ageing, Work Related Learning, Laser and Pulsed Light Therapies, Spa Industry and Spa based Therapies, Marketing Essentials, Academic Study Skills, Personal Development or Recognition of Prior Learning. Year Two: Introduction to Human Resource Management, Work Based Learning, Professional Development, Aesthetic Practices and Principles, Contextual Studies, Business Enterprise.

Assessment method

You will learn through a variety of methods including lectures, group work, seminars, practical sessions and work placements. Assessment is carried out through client case-studies, presentations, an exam, assignments, debates.
