English and History SOAS University of London

Undergraduate

This combined degree also explores many facets of English as a world language by placing both language and literature firmly in their historical and global contexts. You will study the history of the English language; its spread around the world; analyse how it has been adapted by different cultures; learn how Shakespeare's plays have influenced the world and study literatures written in English from around the globe. The two-subject degree also provides a high standard of training in history as an academic discipline and develops in students an in-depth understanding and appreciation of the history of Africa and Asia.
