You'll cover a broad range of literary and art-historical topics that range from the classical period to the 21st century. Our international outlook takes account of the European and global contexts of art and literature.

All combined course students take 120 credits each year, adding up to 360 credits across the course of your degree. You’ll split your time equally between English and History of Art in your first year. In Years Two and Three, it’s possible to vary the balance and devote more time to one subject or the other.

A level AAB Essential Subject:
English Literature or English Language and Literature (or equivalent) at grade A is essential.

Excluded Subjects:
General Studies and Critical Thinking
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) DDD We consider a range of BTEC qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications.

A Level in English Literature or English Language and Literature (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential. We may also consider relevant units in your BTEC as A Level English equivalent.
Access to HE Diploma D: 36 credits
M: 9 credits
Pass Access to HE Diploma with 36 credits at Distinction, including at least 9 of which should be in English Literature related units, and 9 credits at Merit or higher
Scottish Higher AAAAB Only acceptable in conjunction with Scottish Advanced Highers.
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal D3, D3, M2 Cambridge Pre-U Literature in English (or equivalent) at grade D3 is essential.
Extended Project A We recognise the value of this qualification and for this programme you will be eligible for a reduced offer of one grade below the typical offer, where an EPQ is taken alongside 3 A Levels or equivalent and you achieve a mark of grade A or higher.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme 35 points with 6 in Higher Level English Literature or English Literature and Language.
OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma DDD We consider a range of OCR qualifications equivalent to 3 A Levels, or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications.

A Level in English Literature or English Language Literature (or equivalent qualification) at grade A is essential. We may also consider relevant units in your OCR Cambridge Technical as A Level equivalent.
Scottish Advanced Higher AB Acceptable in conjunction with Scottish Highers.

Advanced Higher in English Literature (or equivalent) at grade A is essential.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (first teaching September 2015) A - B We will consider this qualification alongside or in combination with A Levels or other qualifications, as equivalent to one A Level.
