As well as giving you a sound technical education, this course will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the computer security sector. You will gain expertise and understanding surrounding modern computing’s essential areas, covering programming, enterprise security, cybercrime, digital forensics and project management. On top of all this you will additionally be given a wide range of optional units in your second and third years of study.

After you complete your first year of study you will then have the option to specialise by choosing your named award as one of 8 possible options. This could be in Computing, Data Science, Forensic Computing, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Information Technology and more.

Our students have attended placements with the likes of Microsoft, The Walt Disney Company, BMW Mini, Panasonic, HoiPoi Development (Japan) and Axenic (New Zealand). We have specialist computing suites on campus which 94% of our final year students who study computer science courses said they could access when they needed to (National Student Survey, 2018). Graduates have gone on to starting job roles as Cyber Security Engineers, Cyber Security Practitioners, Security Consultants and Technology Consultants to name a few .

• This course is accredited by the British Computing Society (BCS) which recognises the excellence of teaching and student learning delivered on the course.
• You will be enrolled onto the 4-year degree, but can opt out of the placement year.
• Range of facilities and labs which includes a state-of-the-art cyber security unit where you can simulate cyber-attacks.
• Opportunity to join the Computing and Cyber Security societies, providing opportunities to further your learning and work with students from all across the university.

Apprenticeships: We recognise the transferable knowledge and skills gained through apprenticeships and welcome applications from students with the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Each application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Mature applicants: We recognise that mature applicants may have a wealth of experience rather than formal qualifications, so we’ll consider your application on these merits if it’s included in your application. You’ll need to apply to BU in the usual way through UCAS and you may be invited to an interview to discuss your suitability for the course based on the experience you tell us about in your application.
