This programme uniquely offers flexibility in the choice of your final named degree award. It offers the flexibility to follow personal interests by allowing you to make an informed decision at the end of the second year of study to follow one of the named awards - Sport and Exercise, Sport and Exercise Science, Physical Activity and Health, Sports Development and Coaching or Strength and Conditioning. This course offers extensive, work-based learning that will give you the opportunity to put theory into practice with valuable field experience and offers opportunities to gain coaching and/or industry qualifications, which will further enhance your employability.

Modules

Core modules (Years 1 and 2) - Social Science for Sport & Exercise; Biomechanics for Physical Activity & Health; Physiology for Sport & Exercise; Psychology for Physical Activity & Health; Psychology for Sport & Exercise; Physiology for Physical Activity & Health; Biomechanics for Sport & Exercise and Social Science of Physical Activity & Health. Core modules (Years 3 and 4) - Research Methods and Sport Project. Other modules that may be offered in Years 3 and 4 (subject to change over time) - Coaching & Learning; Public Health & Physical Activity; Work Placement; Physiological Adaptations for Health; Physical Activity Across the Lifespan; Student Negotiated Learning; Social Issues in Sporting Context; Applied Sport Psychology; Lifestyle Management and Strength & Conditioning.

Assessment method

The course combines a variety of lectures, small group work, and practical activities. You also undertake work placements to reinforce the link between theory and practice. You will be encouraged to evaluate information and challenge commonly held ideas about sport and exercise, as well as being invited to research your own areas of interest and expertise. Assessment uses a combination of examination and course work to help you develop a variety of intellectual and practical skills such as being able to put forward a position based on evidence, or being able to discuss and promote ideas within a group.

We look for applicants to have achieved an overall IELTS score of 6.0 with no individual test lower than 5.5. Some degrees have higher requirements - refer to the 'entry routes' tab of each degree for more detail.
