As the only Sports Therapy degree in Wales accredited by the Society of Sports Therapy, this programme is designed to educate competent practitioners in all aspects of Sports Therapy. The Graduate Sports Therapist can choose work in private Sports Injury Clinics or in professional / semi-professional sports within the UK or overseas.

Course details

Modules

The degree is taught over 3 years and divided into 6 subject (modules) areas per level of study. Each module provides specific theoretical knowledge and or practical skills required to be a practicing sport therapist. In the first year (level 4) the main focus is to provide a detailed underpinning knowledge of the body, sports injuries as well as the basic skills of massage therapy and management of sports injuries. The second year (level 5) allows students to develop their skills in our sports therapy clinics as well as more advanced techniques in biomechanics and sports rehabilitation. The final year (level 6) provides further opportunities to work in a clinical setting, at sports events and with athletes. It also challenges the student to conduct research and critically review current opinion and practice in the areas of sports therapy and rehabilitation.

Assessment method

Whilst the degree is predominantly assessed through a combination of course work and practical examination. Students will also develop an extensive portfolio of professional practice and case study evidence.

UCAS Tariff 120 points Students are expected to achieve 120 UCAS points with a focus on science based subjects and physical education. Students are also required to have a minimum of Grade C in GCSE Mathematics, English and Science. International students are required to achieve an IELTS level 7 with no element below 6.51. Mature students without sufficient UCAS points will be considered on merit through an interview process.

Any offer of a place on the BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy programme is subject to a DBS.
