Mae’n gartref i gymuned frwdfrydig o fyfyrwyr ac ymchwilwyr sy’n rhannu’r nod o hybu dealltwriaeth ehangach o’r iaith Gymraeg a’r ieithoedd Celtaidd eraill, eu hanes, eu llenyddiaeth a’u lle yn y byd cyfoes. Yma yn yr Adran mae gennym arbenigwyr ym mhob un o’r ieithoedd Celtaidd a byddi’n cael dy ddysgu mewn grwpiau bach cyfeillgar. Mae Adran y Gymraeg yn Aberystwyth yn un o’r prif ganolfannau prifysgol yng ngwledydd Prydain ar gyfer astudio’r ieithoedd Celtaidd, eu llenyddiaethau a’u diwylliannau. At hyn, Aberystwyth yw’r unig brifysgol yng Nghymru lle dysgir yr holl ieithoedd Celtaidd sy’n dal i gael eu defnyddio’n ddyddiol heddiw, sef Gwyddeleg, Gaeleg yr Alban, Llydaweg a’r Gymraeg.

Mae safon ymchwil ac addysgu’r adran yma yn Aberystwyth gyda’r uchaf posib. Rhan o waith yr Adran yw paratoi myfyrwyr ar gyfer y Gymru gyfoes a thu hwnt, a dyna a wnewn yn ystod dy gyfnod fel myfyriwr gyda ni. Bydd y radd hon yn dy baratoi am amrywiaeth o swyddi ac yn datblygu dy sgiliau ieithyddol, creadigol a chyfathrebu.

Cei dy ddysgu gan arbenigwyr sydd yn arloesi yn eu maes a byddi’n dilyn cwrs cyffrous a heriol. Bydd y cyrsiau i gyd (ar wahân i’r Gymraeg wrth gwrs) yn dechrau o’r dechrau, a gelli’n amlwg ddysgu popeth drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg – nid yw hyn yn bosibl yn unman arall heblaw Aberystwyth. Bydd y cwrs Astudiaethau Celtaidd yn rhoi cefndir a dyfnder i’th ddealltwriaeth o’r diwylliant Cymraeg ac wrth gwrs mae diwylliannau Iwerddon, yr Alban, a Llydaw yn hynod o ddiddorol ynddynt eu hunain.

Nid oes raid i ti astudio’r pedair iaith Geltaidd; craidd y cwrs yw ieithoedd a llên Cymru ac Iwerddon, tra bo Llydaweg a Gaeleg yr Alban yn ddewisiadau poblogaidd. Bydd rhai myfyrwyr yn dewis canolbwyntio ar yr Oesoedd Canol ac eraill wedyn yn dewis ymddiddori mewn cyfnodau diweddarach, felly mae modd bod yn hyblyg o fewn y cynllun gradd. Cei ddewis o blith nifer fawr o gyrsiau dewisol yn cynnwys Llên Arthuraidd, Merched a Llenyddiaeth, Ysgrifennu Creadigol, Cymraeg yn y Gweithle a llawer o rai eraill. Aiff rhai o raddedigion yr adran i weithio mewn meysydd fel gwaith cymdeithasol a’r gyfraith. Mae graddedigion yr adran hefyd yn cael swyddi mewn amrywiaeth eang o feysydd eraill fel cyhoeddi llyfrau, y diwydiant twristiaeth, masnach, amgueddfeydd, llyfrgelloedd ac archifdai, y diwydiant ‘etifeddiaeth’, a’r heddlu. Applicants are selected on their individual merits and offers can vary. We allow you flexibility in meeting our entry requirements, and all qualifications that you have already gained, or are working towards, will be considered when reviewing your application. We have an inclusive policy which recognises a broad range of qualifications. The entry requirements listed here represent typical offers for some of the most popular qualifications taken by applicants. We still use the UCAS tariff to determine whether you have met the terms of our offer, so whatever qualifications you are taking, provided these are included in the UCAS tariff and provided you meet the overall points total (and any specific subject requirements) you may still receive an offer. This means that if your course requires 3 A levels at BBB, we will accept other grade combinations that are equivalent to the same number of tariff points. For example A levels ABC and AAD equate to 120 UCAS tariff points). Applicants studying a mixture of qualifications (e.g. A Level with BTEC) are also warmly welcomed. If you cannot find the qualification(s) that you are studying (or have previously studied) please contact our Undergraduate Admissions Office (Telephone: +44 (0)1970 622021; Email: ug-admissions@aber.ac.uk) for advice on your eligibility and details of the typical offer you are likely to receive.

Additional fee information

Fee information: Based on the latest information available to us, for new Home/EU students enrolled on full-time undergraduate courses starting in 2018, Aberystwyth University currently intends to charge a tuition fee of £9,000 for the academic year 2018/19. Welsh government is still to confirm arrangements for 2019/20 onwards, which means that for students starting in 2018/19 or after, tuition fees may rise for any successive years of study, mapped according to any inflation-linked maximum tuition fee permitted by the Welsh Government. These increases would also apply for the proportional fees charged for Year Abroad and Year in Industry. We will inform all applicants and students of the fee levels for 2019/20 and any inflation-linked increases for successive years of study as soon as confirmation is received from Welsh Government, and will publish updates on the Aberystwyth University website. You should check the updated fee information on our website before applying. Up to date details of the relevant fees will be set out in our offer documentation, and your terms and conditions with us will describe how we may be entitled to increase or otherwise change fees during the period of your study with us. Costs not included in the tuition fee: The academic provision of the University includes certain elements of study away from Aberystwyth. These involve activities such as field trips in science degrees and visits to theatres, galleries and museums in humanities-based courses. The additional costs of such activities are not included in the overall University fee and you should, therefore, note the need to budget for them. Details of courses that have additional costs can be found on the Aberystwyth University website. These costs are given as an indication of likely cost and will vary as will the location and duration of the activity. Fuller details will be available from the department organising the activity.
