You will develop specialist techniques and processes in textile design in order to realise sophisticated design ideas to a professional standard. You will broaden your skills and understanding of constructed, printed and embroidered textiles through extensive exploration and experiment with media, materials, techniques, technologies and processes. Through live competitions, client briefs, entrepreneurship and live briefs you will also gain the appropriate skills required for effective employment.
You will have the opportunity to take part in visits abroad, external events and visits to museums/galleries when available. You are also advised to attend and visit as many exhibitions/trade shows as possible in their your time to support your studies.
On successful completion of the HND, depending on your grade, you may be able to complete a second or third ‘top-up’ year of a suitable degree. Alternatively, you will be well placed to pursue a career within the fashion and textiles industry.
Modules in year 1 include: Professional Development; Contextual Studies; Individual Project (External); Techniques and Practice; CAD (Computer Aided Design); Textiles Techniques; Fashion and Textiles Practices; Surface Design.
Modules in year 2 include: Professional Practice; Applied Practice Collaborative Project (External); Advanced Textile Studies; Material Selection and Specification; Creative Industries Placement; Trend Forecasting; Creative Entrepreneurship.
