Who is this course for?
This is an exciting opportunity for those wishing to gain a formal higher education qualification in computing. The Foundation Degree in Computing is a two year, full-time, level 4/5 vocational qualification which is designed to develop both the knowledge and practical skills required for employment in the computer industry. It is equivalent to the first and second year of an honours degree.

What will I study?
With a strong focus on employability, modules have been chosen to teach practical knowledge in key skills shortage areas, preparing you to work in: web-design, programming, network and computer systems engineering, database administration and cyber-security. You will have access to specialist labs and professional-level equipment, including a Cisco computer maintenance and networking lab, professional web, database design and programming software and industry-standard 3D printers.
Modules on the course are designed to give a broad knowledge of desirable computing subjects rather than specialising in a small field which will allow for progression to a range of top-up degrees if learners wish to get a full BSc. Taught modules: Year 1 – Scholarship, Core Academic and Research Skills; Website Production; Information Systems and Databases; Introduction to Programming; Computer Platforms; Networking Fundamentals. This also includes extra embedded professional Cisco certification in IT Essentials (CompTIA A+) and Cisco Networking (CCNA1). Year 2 modules include: Web Programming; Database Theory and Practice; Object Oriented Methods; Systems Analysis and Design; Data Structures and Algorithms and Level 2 Project – which is an opportunity to do a dissertation-type project in a specialist computing area of choice.
