The Health and Exercise Science course offers students the opportunity to focus on the promotion of physical activity for health. This innovative programme adopts an innovative inter-disciplinary approach seeking to better understand the opportunities and barriers that exist within different populations; and considers the effectiveness of current public health policy. Students will develop an extensive set of skills and expertise designed to maximise employability; with graduate well placed to gain employment in the public health programmes, supporting behaviour change, developing and implementing public health and behaviour change policy, supporting active corporate environments, the education and health sectors.

Year 1 - Anatomy, Exercise Physiology, Psychology of Exercise, Health & Sport, Motor Learning & Biomechanics, Introduction to Research Methods, Prescribing Exercise, Prescribing Public Health. Year 2 - Research Methods, Motor Control and Decline, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Exercise Prescription, Advanced Anatomy, Promoting Health & Wellbeing, Ill Health and Disease. Year 3 - Dissertation, Contemporary Issues in Public Health, Health Technology, Critical Skills for Exercise and Health. Optional units - Community Health and Wellbeing, Challenges of an Ageing Population

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) H3, H3, H3, H3, H3 to include either Biology or Physical Education

Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A*-C including Maths and English, or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).
