Course information
The course involves a variety of theory and practical sessions including lectures, discussions, group work, seminars and visiting speakers. During the first and second year, you will undertake a period of work experience in a sport development and coaching-related environment. This course is vocationally orientated and meets the needs of students interested in a career in sport coaching, development and teaching. There is a complementary relationship between the two main areas of study: Sports development is concerned with the provision of sporting opportunities and encouraging people to participate. Sport coaching is the vehicle for the sport development process. Students have the opportunity to take part in and organise sporting events and actively participate in coaching others. The course consists of a mixture of theory and practical lessons, with numerous opportunities for students to apply and develop the skills and techniques required in the workplace. This course aims to develop excellent coaches who innovate, inspire and make a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of their participants.
