Course summary

The new BA (Hons) Contemporary Film Making in the Highlands and Islands is designed to allow you to produce creative films using the beautiful and diverse rural landscapes of Scotland. The programme will give you the opportunity to collaborate with local communities, and arts and cultural industry experts to set up realistic industry links for your future career and employment. You will study a mix of craft skills, editing and production, film studies, documentaries and cultural archiving and recording in an environment that promotes personal development and learning. You will also develop skills in small business planning and research while acquiring technical ability and hands-on, intensive experience.

Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

Qualification Offer Further information
A level CC one in a literary subject plus Standard Grade Credit level, National 5 Computer Science at grade C or above, or equivalent. Relevant industry experience or understanding of the requirements of film making is also required.
Scottish Higher CCC one in a literary subject, eg English, History, Psychology plus Standard Grade Credit level, National 5 Computer Science at grade C or above, or equivalent. Relevant industry experience or understanding of the requirements of film making is also required.
Foundation Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6) Pass Creative and Digital Media, plus 1 Higher such as English, History or Psychology at Grade C or above

You will be required to attend an interview to assess your technical ability.
Advanced entry to year two may be possible with a relevant HNC such as Creative Industries: Television, Creative Industries: Radio, Audio Visual Technology or Interactive Media, with a B in the graded unit.
UHI does not use Tariff points, and accepts a range of qualifications. Applicants with other relevant qualifications or experience will be considered on an individual basis.

Our programmes are taught and examined in English. To make the most of your studies, you must be able to communicate fluently and accurately in spoken and written English in an academic environment and provide certified proof of your competence before starting your course. Please note that English language tests need to have been taken no more than two years prior to the start date of the course. Additional fee information

For RUK students studying a consecutive four year full-time degree, only years 1, 2 and 3 incur the fees stated, year 4 is free. For 5-year integrated masters degrees these fees are incurred for 4 of the 5 years.
