Do you have an interest in cyber security? Would you like to start a career in one of IT’s most hotly debated sectors? This professionally accredited network security management programme aims to equip you with the skills you’ll need to plan, design and implement secure computer networks that can facilitate a range of vital business functions.
This professionally accredited course has been designed to give students the opportunity to study in a practical environment, helping them to gain a broad range of security management skills required by industry employers. Students can expect to use high-end networking and security equipment, as well as industry-standard modelling and simulation software.
Our EC Council certified security and networking labs feature a wide variety of equipment from Cisco (including Cisco Packet Tracer), Fluke and HP, as well as high-fidelity simulation systems like the market-leading Opnet. Students also have free access to our devices lab, where they can test their projects on a variety of different computing devices.
The academic team are CEH (Certified Ethical Hacking) and Cisco qualified, and draw on their experiences in the industry to inform their teaching. This helps to keep the course content in line with the latest changes in this fast moving industry.
Employability skills are also taught throughout the programme, and students are supported to develop a range of transferable skills that include project management, problem solving and analytics. Students may also wish to undertake an optional placement year to develop the skills acquired throughout the course.

International applicants
Applicants who do not have English as their first language will be required to demonstrate an approved level of proficiency in the use of the English language. The agreed minimum requirements for this course are: IELTS minimum 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each individual component TOEFL IBT minimum 80 with a minimum of 19 in each individual component-TOEFL is only valid for EU students or equivalent. Qualifications are checked before enrolment, and international students must bring their original certificates or certified copies when coming to study at the University. The University also offers a pre-sessional English programme for international students who wish to improve their level of English before starting a degree course. Note to all international students requiring a visa: All international applicants need to be aware that the English language requirements to attend Southampton Solent University, and the English language requirements to obtain a visa from the Home Office, may be different. This means that if you meet the Southampton Solent University language requirement to gain a place on the course, you may still have to meet additional requirements to be granted with a visa by the Home Office. • Direct entry to years 2 (Level 5) or 3 (Level 6)
We welcome applications from students currently studying a Foundation Degree, DipHE, HNC, HND or modules of an undergraduate degree course at another university, who wish to enter directly into Years 2 or 3 of one of our undergraduate degree courses.
• Level 5 (year 2) entry
To directly enter the second year of this course you will need to show appropriate knowledge and experience. For example, you are an ideal candidate if you have 120 undergraduate credits at Level 4 or a CertHE in a related subject area.
• Level 6 (year 3) entry
To directly enter the third year of this course you need to show appropriate knowledge and experience. For example, you are an ideal candidate if you have 240 undergraduate credits (at Levels 4 and 5), a DipHE, Foundation Degree or HND in a related subject area.
