Your introduction to degree-level mathematics will leave no stone unturned, with a broad range of topics including discrete mathematics, linear algebra, calculus, statistics and decision mathematics. And in our high-tech, high-spec teaching laboratories you’ll learn to program in a mathematical language, using software packages that are commonly used for both commercial and research purposes.
As you progress, you’ll be able to choose from a range of subjects that reflect your interests and career aspirations, culminating in a chance to apply your learning in project work. Typical areas of study include further calculus and linear algebra, numerical methods and modelling, mathematics of computer graphics, number theory, cryptography, operational research, financial mathematics, statistics, digital communications, sound processing, dynamical systems and group theory.
Our Maths course also has built-in flexibility for those considering studying to a higher level, and if you achieve a second-year average mark of 60% you can transfer seamlessly to MMath (Hons) Mathematics. This option is also open to students who come through the Foundation Year route (a tuition fee loan will be available for all five years).

All our maths degree courses are approved by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
BSc (Hons) Mathematics students may transfer to MMath (Hons) Mathematics at the end of their second year Level 5 studies if they achieve a second year average mark at least 60%.
- BSc (Hons) Mathematics (Foundation) students may also transfer at the end of Level 5 to MMath (Hons) Mathematics if they satisfy the 60% unit average requirement and a tuition fee loan will be available for all 5 years.
