Assessment method

Students are mainly assessed by a combination of coursework assignments and practical tasks. The majority of the assessment is individual; however there are requirements within some modules for group activities. The aim of the course is that at the end of each year you demonstrate your learning by resolving practical networking problems that can be resolved as group project. This approach allows for reflection of knowledge gained and applies individual experiences within a collaborative team environment.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Applicants who do not meet the standard entry criteria but have appropriate industry and life experiences will have their prior learning and skills taken into account. Applicants may be required to complete an Aptitude assessment (this will be advised at interview).

Interview

All applicants are required to attend an interview and will be notified of the date via email and UCAS Track. Applicants applying from outside the West Midlands alternative interview arrangements can be made for you but we strongly encourage all prospective applicants come along to view Solihull College and University Centre’s facilities and meet the teaching teams.
At Interview original certificates including GCSE’s will be required, applicants applying for our Early Years courses will be required to bring evidence of DBS check, Art & Design and Media students a portfolio or show reel will also be required for interview.
Mature students who do not meet the standard entry criteria but have appropriate industry and life experiences will have their prior learning and skills taken into account.
Please allow 28 working days from receiving of your application to a decision being made and UCAS Track to be updated. This time may increase if there is missing information from your application (applicants will be contacted directly to request this) or during busy application periods such as 15th January equal consideration date and possibly February.

Applicants will be required to bring with them a completed assignment of your choice that you feel demonstrates your achievement


English language requirements

Students who are non-native English speakers, or who have not studied the final two years of school in English, but can demonstrate capability in English at a standard commensurate to IELTS 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 being awarded on individual sections for a level 4, 5 or 6 qualification, will be considered as eligible to apply for the programme/course.

Additional fee information

You will be need to access the relevant text books, learning resources and provide all basic stationery including pens, pencils, paper, plastic wallets, folders for the production of coursework. Additional qualifications may be offered during the course at an additional cost to the student. We suggest budgeting approximately £250 for materials and course material for each academic year of the course.
