The security of the internet and information that is stored is of paramount importance to all nations. In response to security dangers, this course will give you knowledge of these threats and help you to develop the skills and expertise to investigate, police, react accordingly and protect systems and organisations. You will study the different ways that computer software and hardware systems can be vulnerable to attack and gain practical skills in how to defeat malicious threats. This will form the basis for a career as a professional cyber security specialist who can work effectively to protect critical systems from being compromised by internal and external threats. Throughout the course you will be encouraged to undertake work placements and manage live briefs from industry, giving you valuable work experience to help you secure employment upon graduation. Throughout the course you will create a portfolio of software projects that you can showcase to potential employers. This course will equip you with the practical and professional skills to work effectively in a range of careers within the police, private computer forensics and security organisations or as an internal specialist for larger organisations. If you complete this course to an appropriate standard and would like to continue with your studies, you may wish to progress onto an appropriate Masters degree.
Advanced Network Security, Collaborative Development, Dissertation Project, Forensic Investigation of Incidents, Research Methods and Data Analysis.
You will learn through a variety of teaching and learning methods including written practical assignments, work-based projects, presentations, peer work and independent study. Assessment is carried out through in-course technical reports, presentations, case-studies, peer assessments, dissertation, work-based projects and time-constrained assessments.
