Studying accounting and finance is much more than learning to keep a check on the numbers, it is also about adding value, developing your analytical and communication competencies, your understanding of finance strategy, and your overall business knowledge. These are all desirable and transferable skills that employers look for in graduates, and you will use them in your future career to support and influence the business performance of your future employer. Our Accounting and Finance BSc curriculum has been created to provide a strong grounding in both subject areas, whilst giving you the flexibility - through a choice of optional modules - to tailor your studies depending on your career aspirations, strengths, or interests. You will begin the course by establishing the building blocks of your accounting and financial knowledge and continue to develop these as you progress through your degree. Modules will focus on the fundamental principles of accounting like the statement of financial position (balance sheet), the statement of profit or loss (income statement), as well as making sure you have the required level of mathematical knowledge to support financial analysis. It's not all about the numbers, business law is studied as a core first year module as modern accountants also need an awareness of the basic rules of law. You will enhance your skills in preparing financial statements and use IT to support and improve your essential quantitative techniques for developing models and presenting data.
