Modules

In Year 1, you'll be introduced to the University and the technical workshops and facilities available to you. On the course you’ll learn the technical and conceptual skills in coding, making and research that will give you a solid foundation from which to explore your areas of specialist activity. In Year 2, you'll increase your confidence and engagement with the course and its facilities, developing the knowledge to address reasonably complex design and coding briefs with elements of self-selection. The potential for specialised learning and the implications of different choices of direction will become clearer, with personal preferences emerging. In Year 3, you'll gain the depth of knowledge needed to resolve a complex design brief. With a substantial amount of self-determined direction, you’ll be able to establish preferences and viewpoints. You’ll express these in verbal and written design discourse, within each subject area and areas relating to design and production. You'll also build an appreciation of how creative coding can become a significant agent for change in today's world. Your communication skills will be enhanced, so that a project can be presented coherently to the public or external professionals.

Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

Qualification Offer Further information

The majority of our courses require a portfolio and we consider the strength of our applicants’ portfolios, as well as their grades.

This means that whilst we have a standard entry criteria of 112 UCAS tariff points (64 UCAS points for 4 year courses) and a minimum of four GCSE passes (or equivalent) at grade A*-C and/or 4-9 including English, this should be used as a guide to what we accept.

The average tariff that our students achieve is significantly higher than this standard entry criteria but we also occasionally make offers which are lower to students with a strong portfolio, and those who have faced difficulties that have affected their performance and who were expected to achieve higher results.

We welcome applicants who are currently studying or have completed A-Levels, Extended Diplomas (BTEC and UAL), Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, Access to Higher Education, Scottish Highers, and IB Diploma. We will consider other Level 3 qualifications on an individual basis and we are happy to accept applicants with a combination of Level 3 qualifications.

You can also check how many tariff points you have achieved using the UCAS Tariff calculator: https://www.ucas.com/ucas/tariff-calculator
