History and English are excellent companion subjects as history helps students to contextualise literature and works of literature often reflect and discuss the concerns of the historical period that produced them. Students will study a range of modules across the two areas of study, beginning with introductory overviews in the first year and progressing to more specialised study over years two and three. In order to help them get the best from their studies, students attend Study Skills classes in year one to assist in developing academic skills and are also allocated an academic tutor to give more specific help where required. Students are also supported through assignment workshops and personal development plans which help reflect on their studies and plan for future progress.
