Course summary

Holders of the BTEC Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Construction and The Built Environment (Building Services Engineering – Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning pathway) will have developed a sound understanding of the principles in their ‘specialist pathway’ of study and will have learned to apply those principles more widely.

They will have developed the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a career in building services engineering, such as design, consultancy and facilities management.

They will have learned to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solving problems. They will be able to perform effectively in their chosen field and will have the qualities necessary for employment in situations requiring the exercise of personal responsibility and decision-making.

Modules included are subject to change but typically students will study 15 modules: Mathematics for Construction; Principles of Heating Services Design & Installation; Principles of Ventilation and Air Conditioning Design & Installation; Building Information Modelling; Further Mathematics for Construction; Advanced Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Design & Installation; Building Management Systems; Alternative Methods of Construction; Environmental Assessment & Monitoring; Alternative Energy Systems Design & Installation and a Group Project
