Building Services Engineering – the design and maintenance of all the things that make a building safe, comfortable, energy efficient and functional – is a specialist branch of engineering particularly in
demand. Energy conservation and sustainability feature strongly on the course. And as it’s a BEng degree, it also includes advanced applied mathematics, which many recruiters look on favourably. There’s also the option to spend a sandwich year working in an industry placement.
Year 1: Engineering principles; Design and practice; Engineering mathematics and modelling; Mechanical services for buildings; Year 2: Advanced engineering mathematics and modelling; Design applications; Electrical installation, distribution and lighting; Energy control and management; Project management; Thermofluids, air-conditioning and refrigeration; Year 3: BEng design project; Design analysis; Energy resources; Innovation and enterprise. Plus a choice of one of the following modules: Noise and vibration control; Power systems and design; Energy systems. Plus a choice from one of the following modules: Building acoustics; Heat transfer in building services engineering; Systems for environmental services and lighting.
