Writing and Publishing is an exciting new degree that combines authorship and publishing to open up a world of opportunities in the creative industries. It’s the first single honours degree of its kind in the UK.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?
If you aspire to work in writing, editing, literature or publishing, this degree will help you get there. You’ll explore the full creative process, from conception and writing through to content development, editing, publishing and sale. This means you will understand how the professional relationships within this industry work. You will build essential business and leadership skills and learn about important aspects of the law, including author contracts and copyright. Best of all, you’ll have opportunities to practice writing, editing and publishing through our in-house unit, Peregrine Publishing.

IS THIS COURSE FOR YOU?
This degree will give you an in-depth appreciation of the writing and publishing industry as a whole, so whatever role you eventually find yourself in – writer, editor, literary agent, book or magazine publisher – you can excel.

HOW YOU WILL LEARN
There’s a good balance of intellectual study and practical business-focused knowledge, skills and understanding. You will learn through lectures, project work, group sessions, teamwork, independent study and research. During guest lectures and events, you will also hear from authors, editors and publishers about what it’s like to work in this field and how to improve your chances of success.

OPPORTUNITIES AND EXPERIENCES
We’ll give you guidance on how to find internships or work experience in writing, editorial and publishing roles. You may also be able to volunteer with our own in-house publishing imprint, Peregrine Books, which publishes books, ebooks and periodicals on a commercial basis.

CAREERS AND EMPLOYABILITY
This Writing and Publishing degree will prepare you for a broad range of potential careers, including becoming a successful author in your own right. You would be suitable for roles in the book or magazine publishing industries, or you could work as a literary agent or freelance editor. If your ambition is to launch your own publishing venture, your newly acquired legal and business knowledge should really help you.
