Course summary

Overview
Cyber Security has become an integral aspect of both industry and everyday life with security breaches leading to data theft, fraud, corporate espionage and failures in national defence. Organisations are moving to shore up their cyber defences and recruitment of graduates with cyber security qualifications has soared.

This HND course has been designed to give you the skills and knowledge to both seek employment upon graduation or to move on to further studies in the field of cyber security. This course has been approved by a variety of UK Computing organisations and counts towards accreditation by both CompTIA and AXELOS. You will study a variety of modules to give you both a solid grounding in Computing and specialist training in Cyber Security. In addition, you will complete a project in both years that will allow you to explore current advances in the field.

Entry Requirements
Ideally you should have studied information technology (IT) at Level 3, but candidates with suitable experience or a strong desire to learn more about this industry will be considered.

You will require:
• GCSE English and GCSE Maths at Grade 4 or above
and either:
• 2 GCE A Levels (A*–C grades)
• Relevant BTEC Level 3 qualification in IT (MMM)
• Access to Higher Education Certificate
• or equivalent IT experience.

All applicants will require an initial assessment and interview by a member of the lecturing team. If you currently do not hold any of the above qualifications but have wide ranging and relevant experience in the Computing industry then, subject to interview, there may be enrolment upon the course. If you currently do not hold any of the above qualifications, the College may be able to offer you an alternative full-time course.
Structure

The course will consist of 8 modules in each year, of which one will be an externally set research project (this has a double weighting in the level 5). Completion of year 1 will grant you an HNC in Computing with the HND in Security granted on completion of year 2.

In year 1 you will study:
• Cyber Security
• Programming, networking and database design
• Computer Systems Architecture
• Data Analytics

In year 2 you will specialise in Cyber Security and study:
• Cryptography
• Forensics
• Network Security and Operating Systems
• Information Management Systems and Business Intelligence

Teaching and Learning
You will be taught via a mixture of lectures, online content, tutorials, workshops and independent research so that you develop a broad academic skill set. The expectation is that you will attend 15 hours of workshops, lectures and tutorial each week over a period of 30 weeks per academic year.

Assessment
We assess you in ways that encourage a deeper understanding and allow you to develop your skills through: reports, multiple choice tests, essays, written exams, mini projects, presentations and review articles.
Each unit is graded Pass, Merit and Distinction and aggregated over the duration of the course to determine your final grade.

Our campus has a range of modern facilities to enhance students learning experience including music recording studios, gym facilities, a nursery, to our own working restaurant and beauty salon and much more. There are frequent buses from the surrounding areas and local train stations in Havant and Cosham. Located off Junction 4 of the A3(M), the College has extensive free onsite parking.
