This joint honours course enables you to take a long chronological view of the development of various societies. You will look at the ancient, medieval and modern worlds, learn to think critically about them and discover the challenges and rewards of studying different historical periods.

Course details

Modules

Students undertake 120 credits in each year. During year one, in Ancient History you will take two core modules on Greece and Rome and one other 20 credit module, and in History you will take our innovative core module, Learning History as well as two core survey modules. In year two you will take the History core module, The Contemporary World Since 1945, plus two more 20 credit modules. In Ancient History you will take an Extended Source Study designed to help you in your 3rd year dissertation, in addition to two other 20 credit modules, including an option to continue studying an ancient language. In year three you can either specialise in either Ancient History or History, or divide your time equally between the two departments. You can choose to take your dissertation in either department.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme 34 points with a minimum of 6 points in History at Higher level.
Scottish Advanced Higher AA Including History with grade A and Scottish Highers AABBB including History with grade A.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (first teaching September 2015) A plus grades AB at A level including History.

European Baccalaureate - 80% overall including 80% in History,
GCSE requirements - English grade C ( numeric grade 4)
