This course aims to equip you with the knowledge, research skills and understanding of healthcare practice theory, trends and developments. You will explore the importance of values and ethical practice, mental health, life and biosciences and develop the practical skills needed in the health and care sector. You will also identify and assess the causal links between habits, lifestyle, culture, religion, ethnicity, socioeconomics, self-identity and perception in the healthcare practice spectrum. Key healthcare employers support the programme through guest lectures and extracurricular activities helping you to apply your theory to practice. .You are advised to complete work placement related to your area of specialism for a minimum of 200 hours each academic year, which will help you to develop practical skills, knowledge and understanding required by the healthcare sector. You may choose to pursue employment as a healthcare assistant within a variety of settings. On successful completion of this course you may wish to continue your studies with our BSc Public Health (Top-Up) degree.

Modules

Year 1: Academic Study Skills, Applied Health Sciences, Assessment and Clinical Skills in Healthcare, Bioscience 1, Personal Development or Recognition of Prior Learning, Safeguarding in Healthcare, Work-Related Learning. Year 2: Bioscience 2, Health Promotion, Professional Development, The Prevention and Control of Infection, Values and Ethical Frameworks, Work-Based Learning.

Assessment method

You will learn through lectures, classroom study, workshops and practical sessions in our hospital simulation rooms. Whilst on placement you will be encouraged to document your learning to assist with your theoretical studies. Assessment is conducted by reports, essays, portfolio, a reflective diary and presentations.
