Allowing you to develop a portfolio of industry standard projects to enhance your employability, with the added benefit of Pro Tools certified training and certification included in your degree. Previous projects have included Front of House engineering for Ed Sheeran and recording a full concert for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Don't have the credits to go to University? Don't panic! We run a Year 0 for students that would like a career change or haven’t been studying for a while. If you don’t have enough credits to do the degree, the Year 0 is a one-year fast track addition the to the 3-year degree to equip you to study the degree.
YEAR 1 Level 4
The physics of sound and how to measure and control acoustics within a studio and live sound scenario.
Full understanding of the primary hardware components used for public address during a live concert or similar public event will be approached in this module.
Professional Networking Techniques
Focussing on the development of networking skills. There will be attendance at business and creative industry events to secure a good networking environment for a professional career.
Digital Audio Workstations
Pro Tools and large format mixing consoles and interface / transmission technologies (e.g. DANTE, MADI) will form a central part of the teaching and production analysis.
Live Orchestral Recording
Build a portfolio of orchestral recordings to evidence working within industry to gain valuable experience in orchestral recording. Develop skills for effective microphone placement and signal routing using professional live sound recording equipment.
YEAR 2 Level 5
Live Monitor Mixing
The vital skills required to provide on-stage performers and singers with a suitable monitor and/or in-ear mix during a live show.
Freelancing for Live Sound
The live industry is supported by many self-employed freelancer roles. This module provides a full overview of all business elements and knowledge required to facilitate becoming self-employed.
Developing your ability to understand published research and the contribution that it makes to their practice and career development.
Front of House Mixing
Working along-side some industry FOH mix engineers to understand the workflow of the job role.
Negotiation of an industry project in a subject specific area of your choosing.
YEAR 3 Level 6
This portfolio will collate all industry projects over the lifespan of the degree; recordings, live events, mixes, training certificates etc. Showcasing with a show-reel the live events attended and the roles that the you have undertaken on the programme.
Focusing entirely on professional mixing consoles and how they would be used for front of house and/or monitor mixing.
Sound Reinforcement Systems
Concentrating on professional loudspeaker and amplification systems used to provide public address, for a range of different venues
Providing learners with the freedom to explore at honour’s level a subject of particular interest to them within the live sound sector.
The course is assessed using real events, production portfolios, written assignments and presentations.
Some of the available career pathways include: Live Sound Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Sound and Audio Project Manager, Theatre and Sound Technician, Monitor Engineer and Front of House (FOH) Mix Engineer, Broadcast Engineer, and routes into teaching and postgraduate education.
The course will use live events to assess the practical elements of the course. There will be written evaluations and portfolios of concerts and events.
Some practical tests will be undertaken and the Pro Tools online certification exams.
