Management (Taught) University of Bristol

This is an intensive, one-year, master’s-level conversion programme for graduates from a wide range of subject backgrounds; it is not necessary to have any prior academic or practical experience in business or management. It will appeal to students who want to complement their first degrees with wider business knowledge and who aspire to management-level roles within their chosen industry and profession.

The programme is designed to give students a good grounding in management theory and practice across a range of subjects, with the opportunity to tailor subjects to your career goals as the programme develops. You will start by studying core theories and concepts that are central to a career in management today, including finance and accounting, organisational behaviour and strategic management. In term two you will have the opportunity to extend your interests and will be offered a diverse range of choices from quantitative approaches to management to more philosophical and innovative approaches to the subject. Finally, in the summer term, the dissertation provides an opportunity for independent research and in-depth investigation into a topic area that you can adapt to reflect your interests and career choices.

We aim to guide, teach and develop analytical and confident critical thinkers, who can apply management techniques from a range of disciplines. You will gain insight into the nature of management and the complexity of organisations from a variety of viewpoints, and will be armed with the relevant knowledge to apply management theory to practice. Group work and presentations, often based on real-life companies, allow practical application of theory and develop the teamwork and communication skills expected in today's workplace.

You will be part of a dynamic and diverse body of staff and students in Bristol, and be taught by experienced academics. Many staff within our School of Economics, Finance and Management are actively engaged in conducting pioneering research at international level, and our school was ranked sixth in the UK for its research impact (REF 2014), reflecting the quality of our research and its role in shaping policy and practice in the UK, Europe and globally.
